Scotts of Thrapston helps transform charity’s new yard

Scotts of Thrapston, stabling manufacturer based in Northamptonshire, has teamed up with Ride High, a charity that transforms the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, by giving them the opportunity to learn to ride and care for horses. The charity was set up by Rachel Medill 10 years ago and now supports 80 children, aged 8-17, every week.  The children are referred to Ride High by childcare professionals, having all faced a variety of challenges that make everyday life a struggle.

The charity recently moved to a new home and as a social enterprise, it now runs its very own equestrian centre. The centre has a riding school, corporate training centre and livery yard, with all the profits from the centre going straight back into the charity to help more underprivileged children.

James Scott, Director at Scotts recalled, “We heard of Rachel’s plans to set up a DIY SOS style project. The aim was to transform the charity’s new home, which featured a beautiful period courtyard stable. Once we saw the fabulous set up, we wanted to help”.

Rachel had the vision of businesses working in partnership with the young people to transform each stable. She explained, “We started inviting businesses to sponsor a stable. They covered the cost of the materials and sent a task group of employees to repair the stable. Our children would come and help finish the painting. Now Scotts has become involved it has taken the project to a whole new level and we are incredibly grateful for their support”.

Scotts has come up with a package of preferential rates for companies wanting to supply new stable doors and windows, which will make a lasting finish to their sponsored stable. The fittings provided by Scotts will ensure that the stunning brick courtyard can be brought back to its former glory and give the charity lower maintenance costs going forward.

If you would also like to take part in the courtyard renovation project and offer valuable support for more young people at Ride High, please contact Claire Foster, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Ride High, on 01908 696169 or e-mail: [email protected].
