BEVA launches Flexible Working Guidelines for equine vets
The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has published new Flexible Working Guidelines, aimed at helping equine vets achieve a better work/life balance and supporting practices in retaining staff.
The Guidelines will be introduced at BEVA Congress (10–13 September, ICC Birmingham) during the Making your Veterinary Career Work session on 13 September.
Angela Jones, BEVA Council member, equine vet and co-founder of Petscribers, spearheaded the project. She explained: “Sustainable veterinary care relies on healthier, more balanced teams, and flexibility is key. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Flexible working allows individuals to find balance and prioritise what matters most to them, supporting wellbeing, job satisfaction, and ultimately the quality of care we can provide to our patients and clients. It’s not just beneficial for individuals. Practices that embrace flexibility are more likely to attract and retain great people, strengthen their teams, and build sustainable workplaces.”

- Clear explanations of what flexible working can look like in equine practice
- Updates on the Flexible Working Act (April 2024), including the right to request flexibility from day one
- Practical templates for employees and employers to start conversations
The resource is designed for equine vets seeking more sustainable work patterns, employers exploring flexible options, and anyone interested in how flexibility can build healthier, more resilient teams.
