A new chapter for AMTRA

The Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA) has begun the search for a new Chair as Michael Seals prepares to step down from the role in March 2027.

Michael will remain in post during the recruitment process and will oversee a handover with his successor once an appointment has been made.

Reflecting on his tenure, Michael highlighted the contribution made by SQPs to animal health and welfare and the progress AMTRA has made in strengthening recognition of their role. He said the organisation enters the recruitment process from a position of strength, with opportunities to build on initiatives including National SQP Week.

AMTRA CEO Stephen Dawson said: “The Board, Council and executive team would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Michael Seals for his leadership, commitment and unwavering support of the organisation and the wider profession. Michael remains in post for a little while yet and will actively be supporting the recruitment of the next Chair.”

AMTRA is seeking a Chair with strategic leadership, governance and ambassadorial skills, capable of building relationships across government, regulation, industry and the wider animal health sector. The new Chair will also champion SQPs and their contribution to animal health, welfare and responsible medicines use.

Applications close on 30 September 2026.
