BE publishes State of the Nation 2024 report

British Equestrian (BE) has released its State of the Nation report for 2024, offering a comprehensive overview of the UK equestrian sector. The report draws on data from BE, its 19 member bodies, industry partners and national statistics to inform future strategy and planning.

Membership across the federation rose by 11.7% between 2023 and 2024, with a 13% growth in social media following. However, riding schools and charities continue to face financial pressure, despite 57% expressing a willingness and capacity to grow. The cost-of-living crisis also remains a key concern.

BE’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy addresses climate-related risks, while early-stage research highlights the mental, social and physical wellbeing benefits of equestrian activities.

Workforce research has flagged low wages and contract issues, although positive employment practices show promise. However, public trust in equestrian sport remains moderate, with welfare and accessibility highlighted for improvement.

Mandana Mehran Pour, BE’s Head of Participation and Development, said, “By deepening our understanding through data, we’re able to plan more strategically, respond more effectively, better represent the industry and shape a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future.”
