bioMérieux launches rapid endocrinology tests
bioMérieux has introduced a new endocrinology testing offer for equine health, enabling laboratory-standard hormone testing to be carried out directly at the point of care.
The launch includes two immunoassay tests—VIDAS® Equine INSULIN and VIDAS® Equine ACTH—designed to support faster diagnosis and management of common endocrine disorders in horses.
Using the company’s VIDAS® KUBE™ immunoanalyser, veterinary practices can obtain rapid results without the need for external laboratory testing. Key features include:
- VIDAS® Equine INSULIN — delivers insulin level results in around 20 minutes, supporting diagnosis and management of Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).
- VIDAS® Equine ACTH — provides testing for dysregulation of the ACTH hormone linked to Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID) in around 45 minutes.
- Testing carried out directly at the point of care using the VIDAS® KUBE™ system.
Pierre Rouppert, Global Veterinary Product Manager at bioMérieux, explains: “Our new endocrinology tests, because of their rapidity and ease of use, will bring clinical value for veterinary practices, directly at the Point of Care. Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Cushing’s Disease are chronic conditions that often evade detection in their initial stages, making early testing crucial in achieving proper management and animal care.”
The tests are initially launching in the UK and France, with wider international rollout planned.
