Nothing goes to waste at Dengie

Dengie ensures that nothing goes to waste – even your customers’ hay samples! The nutrition team analyses over 100 forage samples annually for customers, always retaining some in case additional tests are required. Once these samples are no longer needed, they are given to two guinea pigs, Pumpkin and Spider, who absolutely love them.

A typical guinea pig consumes around 3-4kg of hay each month, which is significantly less than what most horses eat in a day. This is not surprising, considering the size difference between the animals.

Pumpkin and Spider not only enjoy eating their hay but also use it to stay warm and snuggle into during colder weather. Alongside their hay, they receive leafy greens, balanced guinea pig food, chopped grass, and grass pellets as additional treats, especially when the weather is too cold or rainy for outdoor activities.
