SMS roles with Worshipful Company of Saddlers

Mark Romain MBE, Training Officer of the Society of Master Saddlers (SMS), has been installed as Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, with Frances Roche MVO, the Society’s Bridle Fitting Course Leader, installed as Renter Warden, during the Company’s inauguration ceremony at Saddlers’ Hall on 20 July.

The Worshipful Company of Saddlers has origins dating back to the twelfth century and a Royal Charter granted in 1363. For the Society, which is celebrating its Diamond Anniversary this year, the appointments mark a significant moment, with two of its own members taking senior leadership roles at one of the world’s oldest craft guilds.

As Prime Warden, Mark will serve as principal ambassador and leader of the Company, presiding over the Court and guiding its charitable and educational priorities during his year of office. “Becoming Prime Warden of the Saddlers’ Company is a huge privilege and something I never dreamed would happen to me,” he said. “Along with the position comes much responsibility and I will do my best to fulfil those duties throughout the year.”

As Renter Warden, Frances will oversee the Company’s financial and administrative affairs, supporting Mark and fellow Wardens in delivering its charitable and educational objectives.

The Society said it is looking forward to working closely with both throughout their year in office, strengthening the collaboration between the two organisations.
