The Society of Master Saddlers announces new Taster Days for 2026
The Society of Master Saddlers is excited to announce a series of Leather Craft Taster Days taking place at venues across the UK. Designed for anyone curious about a career — or simply with a passion for saddlery and leather working, these one-day sessions promise to be inspiring and practical.
The perfect opportunity whether you’re considering a complete career change, a young person exploring your options, or an equestrian enthusiast who’s always wanted to understand the craft behind your tack, these Taster Days offer the perfect first step into the world of leather craft.
Each Taster Day is led by a Society-qualified saddler and begins with an introduction to leather — where it comes from, how it’s selected and graded, and the tools and techniques that define the saddler’s trade. Participants will develop a genuine understanding of what it takes to work with leather at a professional level.
Throughout the day, everyone gets hands-on — making a number of leather items to take home, including a raised shaped keyring and a hand-stitched leather coaster. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed. What participants leave with is not just a pair of handmade keepsakes, but a real feel for the precision and pride that goes into every piece of quality leatherwork. The day closes with an open conversation about career pathways in saddlery — a chance to ask questions and explore where the craft might take you.
Taster Days are being held at a range of venues across the UK throughout 2026. A full schedule of dates and locations is available at www.mastersaddlers.co.uk. Places are limited, however, so early booking is strongly recommended.
